This driver is in the kernel since 4.17 [1]. Before I used the media- tree backports[2], but had some issues (inkluding the reported bug) that I was hoping to get rid of. Though I can't say for sure wheter is was exactly the same. I just remember that a kernel bug showed up in dmesg.
I just did some superficial testing with the mainline kernel. Things seem better. I was able to unplug without issues when tvheadend was not running. But in combination with tvheadend things still seem to break something in the kernel. (See attached kernel log). To my untrained eye this seems like a different issue. I'll therefore mark this as kernel- fixed-upstream. Where should I file the new issue? "ubuntu-bug linux" said something about the issue caused by a package that is not installed.
