  After the linux restart, the graphical login (via GDM3) was no longer
  reliable:

   * in one trial, the desktop remained empty; mouse still following;
  keyboard strokes not recognized (this has also happened once before
  after the Ununtu 18.04 upgrade)

   * in one trial, the desktop switched from the initial background to
  an irregular black and white pattern

   * in a third trial, I first perform a console login (to collect
  "ubuntu-bug" error information) and then performed the GDM3-login.
  This time, it has been successful.

  Booting the previous linux version gave a successful graphical login
  (but up to now, I have tried this only once).
