Brian, alright, so now that this has been narrowed down between 3.9.0-7.15 and
3.10.0-0.6, assuming this is reproducible in the mainline kernel, it would be
best to switch to it and continue the bisect. Utilizing
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/info/kernel-version-map.html Ubuntu kernel
3.9.0-7.15 is based on mainline 3.9.7, and Ubuntu kernel 3.10.0-0.6 is based on
mainline 3.10.0-rc7. So, consulting
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds , we have:
v3.10-rc7-saucy/
v3.10-rc6-saucy/
v3.10-rc5-saucy/
v3.10-rc4-saucy/
v3.10-rc3-saucy/
v3.10-rc2-saucy/
v3.10-rc1-saucy/
v3.9.11-saucy/
v3.9.10-saucy/
v3.9.9-saucy/
v3.9.8-saucy/
v3.9.7-saucy/

Title:
[HP Pavilion 15-e010ax Notebook PC] Unable to install Saucy

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Tried to install U13.10 using the desktop installer on HP 15e010ax
laptop. Goes thru splash screen to freeze with a black screen with no
cursor. Unable to access terminal. Was using uefi boot with secure
boot disabled. This is a regression as U13.04 works on this machine
and has been used to gather the debug info attached due no terminal
access in 13.10. This occurs when trying to boot to live session or
straight to install. Appears installer cannot set up a satisfactory
default video driver for this machine. Note VESA: KALINDI works on
13.04 and probably should in 13.10.

WORKAROUND: I installed saucy in this machine by a partition copy from
another working pc. Found that a recovery boot works and installs
video driver vesa:kalindi. Also installing fglrx works.
