Title:
  Brightness issue

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have Dell inspiron G3.
I am not able to change the screen brightness. I tried many solutions, but
none worked.

  1. I tried changing acpi_backlight = vendor:
Now this does solve but it creates another problem. Because for my laptop to
shutdown and start properly the LINUX_GRUB_DEFAULT must be set to nomodeset.

  2. I tried installing applications:
But when I run these applications it show "No backlights were found on the
system"

Kindly address the issue and provide a solution. It is causing great
  trouble.
