"I cannot change kernels for fear of modifying my environment."

If you have your data backed up, or even better your OS state cloned
(ex. fsarchiver, DD, etc.), this fear would be unfounded.

 "I also need to monitor this platform with the new A11 BIOS upgrade you
requested recently. That boot testing is not yet complete."

If it still happens with the updated BIOS, a mainline test would need to
occur in order to further diagnose the cause.
