"Xorg on Wayland" (Xwayland) isn't like virtualization. It's the same
source code as Xorg. And the "Wayland" part is the same source code of
gnome-shell you're already using.

I don't think you would find any problems with "CPU cycles and energy
power". At least no more than it already uses.

Yes, I would expect your hardware to work with Wayland. Just try
selecting "Ubuntu on Wayland" from the login screen.
