This is a known bug that OpenSuSE 11.2 has already fixed, because this
fix was considered trivial by the SuSE kernel maintainers:
  https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=578708

There is a known issue on HP Mini type of hardware like the HP Mini
1000 and 210: an Ethernet cable needs to be plugged at installation
for the Ethernet adapter to be recognized (and the kernel
acpi_os_name=Linux needs to be explicitly passed as boot parameter to
avoid kernel crash at Ethernet disconnection in normal operation).
This is not the present issue: here neither the sky2 nor the skge
  drivers recognize the hardware.
