Gerrit Addiks, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER
where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc8 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: latest-bios-b10 needs-upstream-testing regression- potential ** Description changed: - I am (normally) using an Apple Magic Touchpad instad of a mouse. From - 13.04 upward that not possible anymore, because it will take down the - System. Because of that, i am still on 12.04 and will not upgrade until - this is fixed. The Touchpad also works in 12.10, but i prefer LTS. The - actual behaviour of this error is different on 13.04 than it is on - 14.04, but both render the system unusable. I have not tried 13.10 yet. - I am not sure if it is actually the same error, so i have created a new - report for this. - + Using an Apple Magic Touchpad from 13.04 upward is not possible because + of a kernel panic. The Touchpad also works in 12.10, but i prefer LTS. In 13.04 the error is triggered randomly but quickly by dragging on the - touchpad with two fingers (or using two fingers in general). At that - time i have tried to solve it and created a report here: - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input- - synaptics/+bug/1184334 (also maybe related: - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input- - synaptics/+bug/1092615). A Backtrace can be found there. - - In 14.04 this is quite more serious. Whenever using the Touchpad with - two fingers as above, it will cause a Kernel-Panic and simply die. The - only way to recover is a cold reset. I have created photos of the - kernel-panic and attached them here. I dont know if it is possible to - get any other debug information that that in the case of a kernel-panic. - I also doubt that the Apple Magic Touchpad will be the only Touchpad - that can cause this. - - I should also note that this occoured on a Mac Mini mid-2011. Please - tell me if i can do anything else to provide information. I have - installed 14.04-dev-daily as a third OS (only for testing) on this - system besides 12.04 and OS-X. - - gerrit@gerrit-testing:~$ lsb_release -rd - Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch) - Release: 14.04 - gerrit@gerrit-testing:~$ + touchpad with two fingers.
