It appears your machine has two GPUs:
* Nvidia GeForce GT 710
* IntelĀ® HD Graphics 2500
but neither are working properly, which is why you are stuck in low
resolution.
Your Nvidia GPU is not working because the kernel driver ('nouveau')
isn't enabled (I don't know why). And your Intel GPU is not working
because it has been disabled in your system BIOS.
My first suggestion to get the Nvidia GPU working properly is to just
install the latest Nvidia driver. You can find it in the 'Additional
Drivers' app or via the 'Software & Updates' app in the 'Additional
Drivers' tab. Install it and then reboot.
If that does not solve the problem, and you can afford the time, then I
recommend installing Ubuntu 20.04 instead:
https://releases.ubuntu.com/20.04/
This does not appear to be a Xorg bug at all. At most it's a kernel bug
in the nouveau driver, but probably not one that needs to be fixed.
Please just follow the above instructions.
