After updating from 20.04 LTS "focal fossa" to to 20.10 "groovy gorilla",
this issue seems solved (does not occur anymore).

Title:
No sound on Asus X206HA cx2072x [SOLVED? with workaround]

Status in alsa-ucm-conf package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I have an Asus X206HA laptop, with cx2072x audio hardware. Sound has
never worked on it, but lately I needed audio for COVID-19 video
  conferencing.

Googling suggested an upgrade. I upgraded from bionic 18.04 to focal
(sid?) 20.04, but still no sound.

Googling further, I now get good results with the script below. Running
this script after each boot, sound works perfectly with the internal
speakers and microphone. I never attempted to connect headphone/headset
or HDMI audio, so cannot comment on those.

I am happy enough... but audio should work out-of-the-box, without any
  such scripts or subterfuge.

  Thanks, Paul
