Hi,
as mentioned above in Chris's comment, standard Trusty has already reaches its 
End-Of-Life on April 2019 [1].
Are you using a standard Ubuntu or Ubuntu Trusty with ESM support?
If you're using a standard Ubuntu please give a newer release a try.

Title:
  after upgrade to ubuntu 14.04, system not restarting and touchpad not
  working

Bug description:
  after upgrade to ubuntu 14.04 from ubuntu 12.04, the system is not
  restarting, however after quickly pressing esc i can run the system on
  F11 (hp recovery) mode , but in that the touchpad is not working
