I have tried to reproduce the error on a vboxed fresh install of 21.04 and on a minimal install from 20.04, which I sequentially upgraded over 20.10 to 21.04. I could not reproduce the error on these minimal installations.

Considering that it worked fine with focal and groovy, I suspect the upgraded zfs packages to be at fault (although I am not sure which of these). Thanks for your consideration.
