@aseligmann Unfortunately I got no GPU driver working other than using nomodeset. First I tried all different versions offered by the software and updates 'additional drivers' tab. And I tried a selection of older drivers from the NVIDIA PPA, I think I did not even get 390 to work. Each time I had to purge the driver in tty to get back on the system. Did you get the audio working by any chance? I tried different fixes, for example: https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/06/fix-no-sound-dummy-output-issue-in.html But it still only gives dummy output.
