Order Ubuntu shut down the GUI or "sudo poweroff". 2. When you see the Ubuntu logo on a purple background close the laptop lid. Ubuntu suspend powering off and go into standby mode. 3. Open the lid of the laptop and Ubuntu will continue powering off. What should be do: Closing laptop lid not affect on powering off process.
