Bug description:
1-12-2021 sorry new to bug reporting saw Norbert's response below and
reverted to kernal 5.4... Work-around has system back up and running!

re-installed kernal but mate-media package still does not recognize sound
card Asus Xoner found by lspci at 03:00.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media
Electronics Inc CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio]
used: sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-generic
linux-image-5.8.0-36-generic
and rebooted

the sound card and camera no longer show up in sound preferences hardware
list since update today.
Alsa mixer no longer seems to be installed which i used to use for
adjusting settings too. Booting from previous kernal in grub
recognizes Asus Xonar sound card and usb camera just fine. Onboard
sound previously broken hence the need to install sound card.
