I am happy to report that in Ubuntu 13.10, running kernel 3.11.0-15-generic, this issue has gone away, presumably because the changes in the upstream kernel I had been using for a while got into the Ubuntu kernel that is currently installed. I had been running an unsupported kernel for a while and hadn't tested, but today I booted into 3.11.0-15-generic and it seems to be fine at least as far as this issue goes.

When I attempt a second suspend, the suspend does not complete. I have tried to suspend via right-clicking on the Power Manager applet, and I also tried (as suggested at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting): sudo apt-get install checkbox sudo bash /usr/share/checkbox/scripts/suspend_test --full When running that script, the first time the computer suspended and resumed itself, but the second time, the suspend didn't succeed. I eventually hit the power off button and held it down until the computer shut down, then rebooted. I got a "crash report" and attempted to report an issue, but it didn't (as far as I can tell) actually send the data anywhere, although I clicked Continue, so I am instead trying this route. Unfortunately, I attempted to test for the fix in Trusty 2013-03-02 but it wouldn't boot.
