Title:
  nvidia-settings doesn't have permissions to write xorg.conf

Status in One Hundred Papercuts:
  Invalid
Status in nvidia-settings package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

On the latest Hardy update, nvidia-settings doesn't seem to have
permissions to write the xorg.conf when you click the 'Save to
xorg.conf' button. You get an "Unable to create xorg.conf.backup"
error message. If you close out of the app and launch it via gksu from
  a terminal, saving works fine.
