I also ran into the same problem on all Ubuntu 20.04 machines (physical and virtual) which had the focal proposed channel subscribed. On one virtual machine I had to reinstall dpkg which was weird by itself. Otherwise nothing bad happens, the version for the package "linux- firmware" is stuck on version 1.187.36 which seems to be ok.
