Title:
Spaces instead of mainboard vendor name in dmesg DMI: line

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
For the system the "DMI:" line in dmesg output should show:
  [ 0.000000] DMI: Intel Corporation/DX58SO2, BIOS
SOX5820J.86A.0817.2011.0630.1910 06/30/2011

But it actually replaces the vendor name with spaces, character for character:
  [ 0.000000] DMI: /DX58SO2, BIOS
SOX5820J.86A.0817.2011.0630.1910 06/30/2011

  DMI Decode gets it right:
  hardhat:popularity-contest> sudo dmidecode --string baseboard-manufacturer
  Intel Corporation
  hardhat:popularity-contest> sudo dmidecode --string baseboard-product-name
  DX58SO2
  hardhat:popularity-contest> sudo dmidecode --string bios-vendor
  Intel Corp.

In the kernel this line is produced by __init dmi_dump_ids(void) in
  dmi_scan.c
