*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2068107 ***

Thank you but I figured the problem out. The evdi module was indeed the
problem and removing it allowed the upgrade to run to completion. The evdi
module was necessary to run DisplayLink which I no longer use and am,
therefore, not concerned about getting it to work.
Again, all is good now. Thanks for your assist. You can close this case
and otherwise consider it resolved.
Best,
John

Bug description:
this bug appeared during an upgrade. It appears to be related to the
audio card on my Asus laptop. I purchased the laptop with pre-
installed MS Windows and subsequently installed Ubuntu. So, I suspect
there might be a driver problem or some such although I don't know
enough about this to figure out how to troubleshoot.
Any guidance/feedback would be greatly appreciated.
