Xubuntu cannot be shutdown using software

Bug description:
I have a Lenovo L520 that can be shutdown only by pressing power-
button. Making a shutdown in every possible way from UI or command
line the computer just freezes. I can even hear the hard drive
shutting down. One thing I dont understand is that Linux Mint is based
on Ubuntu and it does not have the same bug. Not in Mint XFCE 12 nor
13.
