Public bug reported: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS fails to boot with the kernel linux- image-6.14.0-27-generic on an ASRock Rack GENOAD8X-2T/BCM motherboard equipped with an AMD EPYC 9104 CPU. The system enters a reboot loop shortly after early systemd initialization. Several systemd messages are briefly shown, followed by an immediate reboot. This behavior continues indefinitely.
Steps to Reproduce: 1. Update to Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS or boot the official 24.04 LTS Live/Installer ISO. 2. Use hardware with ASRock Rack GENOAD8X-2T/BCM and AMD EPYC 9104. 3. Boot the system using the default kernel (6.14.0-27-generic). 4. Observe that the system starts systemd, then abruptly resets, repeating in a loop. Expected Result: The system should boot to a login prompt or installation interface. Actual Result: After several systemd messages (ending with Reached target Local Encrypted Volumes.), the system reboots without explanation, and the cycle repeats indefinitely. Additional Details: • Kernel 6.8.0-71-generic works without issue. • Affected even when booting from Live/Installer ISO — this is not installation-specific. • Crash logs are not generated. • Boot parameters (noapic, nomodeset, etc.) do not mitigate the issue. • BIOS configuration has been reviewed and reset to defaults. • Attached: archive with hardware/grub info + boot failure video (.mov). ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: asrock boot-loop epyc genoa kernel livecd regression server ubuntu-24.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2119636 Title: Ubuntu 24.04 fails to boot with kernel 6.14.0-27-generic on ASRock GENOAD8X-2T/BCM – reboots after systemd init Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS fails to boot with the kernel linux- image-6.14.0-27-generic on an ASRock Rack GENOAD8X-2T/BCM motherboard equipped with an AMD EPYC 9104 CPU.
