Hi Mehmet,

I am glad to receive a reply from a human (I assume that you are not a
bot).

You requested "Can you submit system information like you did, except this
time with
the working kernel (6.8.0-63) instead."

What exactly do you want me to do? Please give me shell commands and which
parts (grep) you want to see.

Your second request:
| 2) Can you try the hwe kernel and let us know if the issue is solved by
that (sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-24.04).
| I am trying to understand if this issue is specific to realtek devices
and it seems 6.14 didn't receive any major updates since 6.8

...seems a bit risky to me.

This laptop, which I am currently using to answer you, is the _only_
machine I have. And I am unemployed, i.e. cannot go to a sysadmin when the
machine is not working as expected. The "kernel regression" as the reason
for may failing mic, I found out myself, after spending over 18 hours with
ChatGPT, and its misleading suggestions.

This whole issue, about my mic not working anymore after an update,
affected my hunt for a new job. I cannot afford my laptop not working for
a day or two, just to experiment with different kernel versions.

If you promise that:
    sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-24.04
...is not doing any harm to my current sytem, then I will do it.

If you can promise that, what do you want me to do next?

I modified /etc/default/grub to load 6.8.0-63-generic instead of the latest.
What should I load instead?

And how do kernel versions (like 6.8.0-63-generic and 6.8.0-79-generic)
correspond to linux version numbers in e.g. your proposed
linux-generic-hwe-24.04?

I am willing to help!

But I need my laptop to keep working.

Volker
