Re-assigning to linux, a freeze during suspend feels more likely to be in linux than ubuntu-release-upgrader. (I might still have the package incorrect, but this will be a start.)
Please run apport-collect 1313382 -- I suspect more log files will be needed to debug this, and hopefully it'll recognize the changed package. When I had 13.10 installed it worked without problem. I used do- release-upgrade to upgrade to trusty and the problem started. I've now tried installing trusty from scratch, but get the same behavior. This does not happen when using pm-suspend to initiate suspend. I consider this a security issue, as some users may be inclined to leave their PC on rather than suspend and locking screen.
