This bug is spoiling the use of my HP dv6 with Ubuntu for about three
years. The HP has a tendency to get noisy and hot so being unable to
suspend only makes it worse. I didn't have the problem when I had
Windows. The hours I have wasted trying all the suggestions online.
Suspend seems to happen ok. When woken, the screen stays black and two
lights flash on and off. I have to disconnect from AC, take out the
battery, and press the on switch for half a minute or so. I can then
reboot.
