Public bug reported: I am currently using 14.04 but I have tested this from 10.04 (downloaded from oldreleases) to the beta 14.10 and the bug is still there. 32 or 64 bit releases do not seems to make any difference.
I solved the issue temporarily by downloading the sources from Intel and applying the following procedure: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1276211&page=4&p=8021944#post8021944 This however is a temporary fix and the patch will have to be re-applied on the next kernel update. This are my network interfaces. Wireless worked fine even after applying the above mentioned patch: ~$ sudo lshw -C network [sudo] password for cutadmin: *-network description: Ethernet interface product: 82573L Gigabit Ethernet Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0 logical name: eth0 version: 00 serial: 00:16:41:ad:5e:d9 size: 1Gbit/s capacity: 1Gbit/s width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd 1000bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=e1000e driverversion=3.1.0.2-NAPI duplex=full firmware=0.5-1 ip=10.42.0.88 latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes port=twisted pair speed=1Gbit/s resources: irq:48 memory:ee000000-ee01ffff ioport:3000(size=32) *-network description: Wireless interface product: PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0 logical name: wlan0 version: 02 serial: 00:18:de:ca:cb:2e width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=iwl3945 driverversion=3.13.0-36-generic firmware=15.32.2.9 latency=0 link=no multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11abg resources: irq:47 memory:edf00000-edf00fff ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: linux-image-3.13.0-36-generic 3.13.0-36.63 [modified: lib/modules/3.13.0-36-generic/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/intel/e1000e/e1000e.ko] ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-36.63-generic 3.13.11.6 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-36-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.5 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: cutadmin 2029 F.... pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity CurrentDmesg: Error: command ['sh', '-c', 'dmesg | comm -13 --nocheck-order /var/log/dmesg -'] failed with exit code 1: comm: /var/log/dmesg: Permission denied Date: Wed Oct 8 11:23:57 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-09-24 (13 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) MachineType: LENOVO 2007VM7 PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: no card ProcFB: 0 radeondrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-36-generic root=UUID=42a3a04d-a34b-443a-bab6-fbd53d98e49b ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: linux UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) WifiSyslog: dmi.bios.date: 09/12/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 79ETE3WW (2.23 ) dmi.board.name: 2007VM7 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr79ETE3WW(2.23):bd09/12/2008:svnLENOVO:pn2007VM7:pvrThinkPadT60:rvnLENOVO:rn2007VM7:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 2007VM7 dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T60 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1378690 Title: 82573L Gigabit Ethernet Controller UNCLAIMED on Ubuntu Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I am currently using 14.04 but I have tested this from 10.04 (downloaded from oldreleases) to the beta 14.10 and the bug is still there. 32 or 64 bit releases do not seems to make any difference.
