Title:
Black screen on resume after suspend by lid close persists in Xubuntu
  14.10

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Same issue as reported in Bug #1357090 (Xubuntu LTS 14.04.1) and Bug
#1303736 (Xubuntu LTS 14.04) is confirmed on Xubuntu 14.10 upgraded
from 14.04.1 on Dell Latitude 400.

Closing the lid does not activate a clean suspend and results in black
screen with frozen cursor upon re-opening the lid.

  The machine does NOT suspend.

Once black screen mode is invoked, the only recourse is power off re-
  boot.

  Fix reported http://xubuntu.org/news/laptop-users-fix-available-for-
the-black-screen-on-unlock-bug/ does not seem to apply.

As before, suspending before closing lid by using menus or keyboard
works correctly and results in a clean resume on lid open.

As a reminder, suspend by lid close always worked correctly in Xubuntu 12.04
LTS so this is NOT a "BIOS problem" as has been suggested elsewhere.
