I just updated to the new BIOS and the problem was resolved. Thanks for the
suggestion. I'm glad I still dual boot to windows, otherwise I wouldn't be able
to update the BIOS at all.

I'm using Ubuntu Trusty and the problem with the touchpad still exists
with the latest updates from the repository.
WORKAROUND: Pushing Fn+F7 (which is the turn on combination for the
touchpad) before loging in makes the tp work perfectly.
