G'day Everybody! When I first read about DragonFly and Matt's explanation of the fork from FreeBSD I couldn't understand clearly. However, I was a student at that time and it was very hard for me to digest Matt's vision. But now I am working in a real world environment I have started to realize what Matt was able to see at the beginning of project.
I am working for a MM$ company that can spend hundreds of thousands on latest hardware (processors, network cards, memory etc.) but couldn't scale the performance. Infact, one of the seniors developers suggested that it is too hard to achieve scalability when your starting base is a code and set of algorithms built upon an unstated assumption that there is only one cpu in the system. There is no doubt that DragonFly is heading in the right direction for SMP support. Now that, I was very excited by the DragonFly project , I wanted to contribute to it and the particular area I am interested in is porting it to AMD64 platform. Infact, I specifically bought a laptop with AMD Turion 64 X2 processor to jump start into development. I just wanted to know is anybody currently working on AMD64 platform support. Or if any experienced hacker can provide me details or point me in the right direction on what is required, I'd be very thankful. Cheers kmb -- Something is wrong up on cloud # 9!
