Applications or system processes will not have access to the driver, nor
the device itself. They will merely have access to an object which
interfaces this device with the JOS kernel and core. The application
only knows it has a Modem object, it does not know the name of the
driver or the manufacturer of the driver... The driver can change (not
the device - the driver) and the application should be able to just
continue using the device with the Modem object (or whatever device it
is).
