Like Quinn says, it's impossible to predict. Performance can differ hugely
depending on the implementation and hardware support for certain java
features.
With aggressively staticly or dynamically compiled code the user should
ultimately see little difference between a C++ GUI application running on
a traditional OS and a java app running on a Java OS.
Security can potentially be much tighter due to VM and the ability to
sandbox applications.
