Cloning Linus's tree works. Cloning linux-next won't do what you think it does. You want to do something like this to grow your own copy of linux-next: $ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git $ git remote add linux-next git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git $ git fetch linux-next $ git fetch --tags linux-next After which, using 'git remote update' will refresh it.
