As I said, there's not any good way to make a framework for testing all device drivers. For starters, you can't even get all the hardware into one machine - it's going to be *really* hard to test a laptop fingerprint reader and a 40 gigabit ethernet in the same system. In general, the maintainer has whatever they consider to be a sufficient test methodology for the driver they maintain (which obviously requires that the maintainer actually have access to an example of the device).
