I am not sure , but could you try not making a new directory for your foo,. Just as a test?
Whatever .c files you create put them in net/ and edit net/Makefile . Then try? This same problem I faced when I didn't edit the makefile correctly. Alternatively, maybe you could post a diff to show us exactly what you have changed.
