THis is because the kernel and modules > build are usually tied together. true. if the modules are compiled without module-versioning support (CONFIG_MODVERSIONS) as well as without source-checksumming (CONFIG_MODULE_SRCVERSION_ALL) the chances are a bit better of it working.
