I believe if you have source code for 2.6.22 and custom compile the kernel and 
boot inside that  you  can compile the module against 2.6.22 and load too.

No, you must compile it against a 2.6.22 kernel, so you have to:
- download the 2.6.22 version sources, 
- modify the makefile in order to point to the right sources.
- try to compile it again ;)
