let's hope I understand your question correctly. You ask: if a user
space program somehow triggers exception, how to trace it?

Well, CMIIW people, but I guess in most case exception will trigger
core dump. So just make sure you do ulimit -c unlimited. Once
exceptions happens, you get the core dump. Together with gdb, using
"bt" function you can trace the original caller function that starts
the call chain.
