In the file, /boot/grub/menu.lst I think there is a flag that you can toggle to see the boot messages instead of the splash screen. The comments above the flag, should give you details on how to enable/disable the boot messages. But I am telling this from memory. I moved on to centOS and Debian after v8.04. > Has this changed?
