Could you explain this further? The stack trace syslog took, for example.
Actually all I can say is that as long as the syslog daemon was started, no
log messages appeared on the remote machine. So the stacktrace didn't show up
on the remote machine, too.
I take it that you are saying that a) you have the kgdb console option on,
and b) that kgdb is not intercepting the watchdog event.
Are you also saying that turning off the syslog daemon fixes this or just
that this allows you to (or inspired you to) look in the syslog on the target
machine?
As I understand it, kgdb should break, automatically, when ever a watchdog
trips. This should happen before the watchdog event gets to the stack trace
code. In your case, this seems not to be the case.
Amit, do I have this right? Does kgdb, for some reason, let the watchdog
event pass with out breaking? Should it?
So the bug is fixed now.
What did you do and what was the result?
The bug was a double called spinlock, which was calles in some special cases.
If KGDB was entered at this
point, what is does bt and kgdbinfo show? I.e. we need to understand how
kgdb was entered and thus why what you did fixed it.
I wasn't able to set a breakpoint, because the module was called several times
per second, but the freeze occured after minutes...
A breakpoint in the stack dump code would have worked, but, as I said above,
should not have been needed.
