I spoke too soon; booting with "kgdboc=ttyS0,115200" does get my
serial input recognized after entering kdb, but my USB keyboard
input's still ignored, which I see now is by design.  This machine
doesn't have any PS/2 ports, so the conclusion's just that I have
to use serial to interact.

On the plus side, the pre-avivo path of the radeon patch does better
than I expected:  it has a palette problem when you switch back to X,
but it doesn't need X to be run with -sharevts, and it doesn't expose
any BUG()s.
