Grazie Lorenzo. I see the bug report at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/kicad/+bug/1056926 and the hack which adds
-O1 to the compile flags of the release version.
I'm still seeing the bug since I'm compiling the develop version,
which did not add the -O1 flag. This is on gcc 4.7.2 which still has
this flaw apparently.
