All, Thanks for the help. It turns out I have to different versions of wx-config installed 2.8 and 2.9. I had removed 2.8 or so I thought, the wx-config was still installed for it and set as the default wx-config. Once I fixed the symlink for wx-config and pointed it to wx-config-2.9 everything started working!
