From my point of view the grid usage tip actually is quite effective !
It actually makes adding pins an easy task
I went back to the help (Getting_Started_in_KiCad.pdf) english version,
section 7 - Make component footprint
and this tip is not written (there is a generic reference to use the right
grid)
For a newcomer, it is not immediate to think that rebasing and adjusting
the grid is a good way to make life easier while adding pads.
I suppose all of you are in favour of adding a TIP in section 7 , bullet
point 6 that basically describes what Jean and others have actually said
It is a tiny documentation change, I may do it, but maybe there is someone
in charge of it ?

Jean-Pierre,
Thanks for the tip, it is a great help.
But this is usable until you want to use a 144 QFP or worse a 900pin BGA.
and suddenly dealing with the pin numbering become a nightmare.

I second your suggestion, but want to expand it a little, and ask
Damiano
1 - set the grid user to delta X and delta Y
2 - select grid user
3 - set grid origin to the pad to clone.
4 - add pads (one click per pad, but this is not a lot of work)
