Once in a while someone asks why they can't use the VRML output of KiCad as an input model for KiCad. Part of my 3D model toolset was a simple tool which I originally wrote to help create images for documentation, but it can be used to create VRML assemblies which KiCad can use. What would be required are:
1. Add an option in the VRML export dialog to produce an assembly as a single file. 2. Port 3 or 4 files from my 3D model project to provide the tool to create the assembly. Any thoughts on whether this might be useful? Although I'm working on IGES code at the moment to create assembly files which MCAD can use directly. most IGES models out there are a plain gray color so VRML still seems to be the best thing to use for eye-candy. - Cirilo
