We have already some work on the way here -- in the component editor there is a pin table (that is read only for the stable release, but writeable cells are partially implemented already) that is pretty close to what you are proposing. I also plan to extend this to footprints and also annex the net creation code that is floating around (I don't have the author's real name handy, but he's on IRC).
