I committed your patch in the product branch r6370. I tested it on msys1/mingw32, msys2/mingw32, msys2/mingw64, and Debian testing without issues. You should also be able to be more aggressive with your optimization settings should you so desire. Please keep in mind, if you do this and it breaks, you get keep both pieces.
