Gerber and excellon are pretty specific mime-types. My guess is most distros will not provide mime-types for them. We should provide the mime-types for all file types supported by the various kicad apps. If distros need to modify them, I'm fine with leaving that up to the distro package devs. I we provide them, the package devs will have some idea that kicad handles these file types. Trying to guess what the needs of each distro would be a never ending task.
