This is why I used 6.0.0-rc1. 5.1-dev will confuse the package version sorting when 5.1.0 is released. I'm fine with Simon's proposal but users will be no less confused by 5.0.0-452-g23849572 than by 6.0.0-rc1-xxx-commithash. If someone has a better idea that doesn't break package version sorting schemes, doesn't confuse users, and conveys the current development version, I'm open to suggestion.
