I aggree that the actual board looks better than the gerber on the screen!

One trick I use is that I set the zone "resulution" to 5 mill and the
zone clearance a little bit higher than needed. Then I fill the zone.
After that I right click on the zone and change the trace width to 8
mill as this is the smallest trace width I use on my boards. This way
I avoid getting zone parts with 5 mill traces (my PCB manufacturer
charges extra if traces are below 8 mills).

This way I also get a little bit softer 45 deg. zone traces.
