I agree with Rick's comments. I just completed a 4 layer professional design with KiCAD PCBnew on Linux (I used Orcad for the schematic because it was already mostly done) and the board came out really nice. It took a while to get used to certain things but that is something expected for every program.
I used PADS (older version) before and found KiCAD easy to use with some minor issues that took some help to get through. But overall I am happy. I tried the autorouter briefly but in the end did everything by hand. It still needs some polishing but every autorouter does something wrong. Martin
